Your Trusted Dental Home in the Riviera Maya

Whether you are a long-term resident of Playa del Carmen, a snowbird who spends winters on the coast, or a visitor who needs dental care during your vacation, our general dentistry services keep your teeth and gums healthy with the same quality you expect from the best clinics back home.

Good dental health starts with prevention. Regular cleanings, thorough examinations, and early intervention are the foundation of a lifetime of healthy smiles. At our clinic, general dental care is provided by experienced English-speaking dentists using modern equipment and techniques, at prices that are a fraction of what you would pay in the United States or Canada.

Professional teeth cleanings start at just $49 USD, comprehensive exams are affordable and thorough, and common procedures like fillings and extractions are priced transparently with no hidden fees.

Our General Dentistry Services

Professional Teeth Cleaning (Prophylaxis)

Regular professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar that brushing and flossing at home cannot reach. Our dental hygienists use ultrasonic scaling technology to gently break up hardened deposits above and below the gum line, followed by polishing to smooth tooth surfaces and remove surface stains.

We recommend professional cleaning every six months for most patients. If you have gum disease or a history of heavy tartar buildup, more frequent cleanings (every 3-4 months) may be recommended.

What is included in a cleaning:

  • Ultrasonic scaling to remove tartar and calculus
  • Hand scaling for precision cleaning in tight areas
  • Polishing with professional-grade paste
  • Flossing to check for contact point issues
  • Fluoride treatment (optional)
  • Oral hygiene evaluation and personalized guidance

Comprehensive Dental Examination

A thorough dental exam is more than just looking at your teeth. Our diagnostic process includes:

  • Visual examination of every tooth, gum tissue, tongue, palate, and oral soft tissues
  • Digital X-rays (panoramic and periapical) for detecting cavities between teeth, bone loss, impacted teeth, and other issues invisible to the naked eye
  • Periodontal assessment measuring gum pocket depths around every tooth to detect early signs of gum disease
  • Oral cancer screening examining soft tissues for suspicious lesions
  • Bite analysis checking for alignment issues, grinding wear, or TMJ problems
  • Treatment plan discussion with clear explanations of any findings and recommended treatments, including costs

Our digital X-ray system produces high-resolution images instantly while exposing you to 80% less radiation than traditional film X-rays.

Dental Fillings

When a cavity is detected, a filling restores the tooth to its normal shape and function while preventing further decay. We use tooth-colored composite resin fillings that blend seamlessly with your natural teeth — no more silver amalgam fillings that darken over time.

Our filling process:

  1. Local anesthesia numbs the area completely
  2. Decayed tooth material is carefully removed
  3. The cavity is cleaned and prepared
  4. Composite resin is layered and sculpted to match the natural tooth contour
  5. A curing light hardens the material in seconds
  6. The filling is shaped and polished for a smooth, natural finish

For larger areas of decay where a filling may not provide sufficient structural support, we may recommend an inlay, onlay, or dental crown instead.

Tooth Extractions

Sometimes a tooth cannot be saved and extraction is the best option. Common reasons for extraction include severe decay beyond repair, advanced periodontal disease, fractured teeth, impacted wisdom teeth, and teeth blocking orthodontic treatment.

We perform both simple and surgical extractions:

Simple Extraction — For visible teeth that can be loosened and removed with standard instruments. Performed under local anesthesia in a single visit. Recovery is quick, typically 2-3 days.

Surgical Extraction — For teeth that are broken below the gum line, impacted (stuck in the bone), or have complex root anatomy. A small incision in the gum tissue may be necessary. Recovery takes 5-7 days.

After extraction, we discuss tooth replacement options including dental implants and bridges to prevent the shifting of adjacent teeth and maintain proper bite alignment.

Periodontal (Gum) Treatment

Gum disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in adults, yet it often progresses without obvious symptoms until significant damage has occurred. Our general dentistry team screens for gum disease at every visit and provides treatment at every stage.

Gingivitis (Early Stage) — Red, swollen gums that bleed when brushing or flossing. Fully reversible with professional cleaning and improved home care.

Periodontitis (Advanced Stage) — Gum pockets deepen, bone loss occurs around teeth, and teeth may become loose. Treatment includes deep cleaning (scaling and root planing), which removes bacteria and tartar from below the gum line and smooths root surfaces to help gums reattach.

Maintenance Therapy — For patients with a history of gum disease, we schedule more frequent cleaning visits (every 3-4 months) to prevent recurrence.

Preventive Treatments

Prevention is always more affordable and comfortable than treatment. We offer several preventive services:

  • Fluoride treatments to strengthen enamel and reduce cavity risk
  • Dental sealants for children and cavity-prone adults — a thin protective coating applied to the chewing surfaces of back teeth
  • Night guards (occlusal splints) for patients who grind or clench their teeth during sleep
  • Custom sports mouthguards for athletes and active individuals

Dental Care for Visitors and Tourists

Dental emergencies do not take vacations. If you develop a toothache, lose a filling, chip a tooth, or experience any dental issue while visiting Playa del Carmen or the Riviera Maya, we are here to help.

Same-day emergency appointments are available for acute pain, infections, broken teeth, and lost restorations. We understand that you may be on a tight vacation schedule, so we work efficiently to diagnose and resolve your issue as quickly as possible.

Even if it is not an emergency, many visitors take advantage of their time in Mexico to schedule a dental check-up and cleaning. A comprehensive exam and cleaning at our clinic costs less than the co-pay at many US dental offices, making it a smart addition to your travel itinerary.
